Happy Anniversary

Today, I got a letter from Subaru, Happy Anniversary! it said. 2 years since I leased that car, wow, where did the two years go, has it been this long…

Not only did they wish me a Happy Anniversary, but… if you like, you can call us and see if you want to bring it in early, and look at going into a new lease, perhaps a 2011.

Tempting don’t you think? Especially since I had my share of trouble with this car, and the last two years have had some not so happy moments.

So here are my options I guess.

1) Go in and trade it, VERY tempting since my last incident, I have not driven this car fast at all, I am just afraid, and frankly, if I am gonna drive that car just like driving my old Toyota, then what is the point, might as well

2) Wait another 12 month, and show up to the dealership and drop it off and say, thank you Subaru, its been fun knowing you, never again, at which point they will discover every scratch possible and want me to pay for it.

3) Wait 9 month, show up to some other dealership negotiate a deal and say, sorry cant buy today, I still have 3 month left on my car, at which point, they will say, oh don’t worry we will take the lease off your hands

4) Buy it out and keep it (frankly that is just not gonna happen, i can’t believe I wrote that)

5) Buy it out, and sell it, but what is the point and I will feel bad

What to do, what to do?

  1. Don’t get me wrong, I love my 2010 STI, but its far from perfect.

Unless all of a sudden I lose my job, I believe I will go back to a BMW next. 335xi :)

  2. I’m looking into purchasing a 2011 WRX premium, and coming from an acura rsx-s, a fun-to-drive and super reliable car…can you give me any indication of the reliability of the wrx, if driven normally i.e. not racing, etc? The dealer mentioned purchasing an ext. warranty as he stated that the turbo may go out..is this just some falsification from him in trying to get me to spend a couple extra thousand, or is this common in the wrx?

  3. First things first, you should probably learn to monitor oil on whatever car you purchase next. Maybe basic maintenance, like switching out your own oil and making sure essential fluids are stocked up would be keen as well?

Can’t believe you let an enthusiast’s car like this go bone-dry.

  4. If they are willing to take you wrx early, I would trade it in if you want a 2011 subaru. At the end of the lease they will find every scratch, dent and it can start to add up. Ive learned the hard way. I like my 2010 wrx. Had zero problems with it. I have a stage 2 tune but dont drive the car everyday. I may sell it and get a bmw 135i M when it comes out in spring. My wife has a 2010 328i and it handels alot better then my wrx.
