The General – Good Choice?

Filed under: WRX — Samer Forzley @ 6:00 pm

In a previous post I was looking to get set of tires, I called a few companies in town and got some prices. Turns out, surprise surprise,  performance are not cheap. One tire a Micheline was 299 a tire. No thanks

So then I found this tire called “The General”, its the cheaperst performance tire I can find. I called a few dealers in town, and the feedback was the same. Its not a brand name, its not going to perform like an expensive 300$ tire but its not a bad tire, everyone insisted, its better than the tires that Subaru put on the car in the first place.

I thought to myself hey, even if this tire only lasts 2 seasons, why do I care, I am leasing the car anyway and I dont know if I am gonna keep it. So at 150 bucks a tire, why not.

Do you think that was the right choice? Have you heard of this brand before?

What is the main motivation? what do you expect from the car?

2009 Subaru WRX Clutch Replacement

Filed under: WRX — Samer Forzley @ 10:35 am

Under 40K on the car, the clutch needed to be replaced, Subaru says its my fault for driving the car too fast. The thing is blue which means I drove it to hard. And that means its been driven hard. Here is the break down of the cost, mostly parts. I took pictures of the clutch and fly wheel

Back in the Shop again – Clutch is gone

Filed under: WRX — Samer Forzley @ 8:52 pm

On Friday, I started to notice that once I hit 4K RPM the car would slip a bit in that I would lose power for a tiny bit. I called Subaru but it was too late they had closed for the day. On Saturday, I called again, and unfortunately the shop was closed for the weekend, I was hoping to chat with anyone, but no luck. In anycase I decided to take it in and show it to the sales people maybe they would know. I showed it to the guy who sold me the car, and he was not 100% sure, but he said to be safe not to drive it much, and I did not.

By the time I got home, It has started to slip more and at lower RPM. On Sunday the car was pretty much parked. Today, drove it in, it was really bad.

Got to dealership, left it there, then a few hours later, I got the call, clutch is gone. Not sure why clutches would go, why so early. I dont think I am that bad of a driver, but could be.

I was told that I would hear back and the estimated cost is 1600 + tax. outch. I love this car, but really I am also tired of this car. Maybe we are just not made for each other.

Isn’t that a lot of a clutch?
