He's a dirtbag for getting mad when it was his fault for hitting your car which is pretty new. That is why there is insurance. Backing at a red light is actually a moving violation and could warrant a ticket, to add insult to injury. By finding a cheaper alternative to getting the car fixed, you did the right thing!
